Have you heard of Kathrine Switzer? I hadn’t, until a coaching client told me how inspired she was after hearing Switzer speak recently. Turns out, we have Switzer to thank for opening up the Boston Marathon to women. Hard to believe, but until 1972, this signature sports event was “for men only.” The thing is, Switzer didn’t run the marathon to make a statement. She never dreamed that eventually she would be speaking to heads of state to advocate for making the women’s marathon an Olympic event. She simply had the desire to run a marathon–and acted on that desire.
How can you change the world by following your desire?
